ME Hey everyone my name is Alanazi Talal. I have attended Murray State University since Fall 2009 so I'm now a sophomore. I'm majoring at Computer Science now but I'm willing to change my major to Management Information System. I really hope that this class will help me to figure out the right information that I need in a fast and safe way because sometime it takes a lot of time to find the information and maybe its false one especially when you research about it through web sites. Hope this class helps me and you to make researching about information more easier.
Information Needed This Week This week I had to research about how to communicate with other people and what are the best ways to gain friends and influence people. It was really interesting subject for me because I think that it’s very important to know things like that to be successful in your life. Therefore, I start thinking about this question “What are the best ways to communicate with other people?” While I’m researching and trying to answer this question through web sites I saw a title to subject which grab my attention, the title was “Seven Ways to Communicate Effectively “by Pablo Golub. I went to that web site and read the information over there, and I found it really helpful and summarize the best ways to communicate to just seven ways. Have self-worth, get interested in other people, open up a person’s heart, listen at least two times more than you talk, diversify yourself, understand that your worth never changes, and follow the step –ladder to success those are the seven ways that the author suggested to you to success in communicating with other people. I really found them worth and helpful in communicate with other people. This is my resource http://top7business.com/?id=1767 .
“What Is Information” First of all, the author of this article tries to provide us with a definition and explanation of the information and what role the information plays in lives and how information can help us to reach other places immediately. Then, he mentions what information includes such as data, work of art, and technical specification. Also, he talks about where we store information; for example, in our minds, in language, in technology, and many other places. Moreover, he explains to us what are the sphere and noosphere and gives an example for each one. He used the Mona Lisa as example of noosphere’s reality and Romeo and Juliet as sphere. Also, he talks about how easy and fast to gather information from the World-Wide Web than going to library or museum. Finally, he concludes the causes of information obesity which are a lack of understanding of technological change, the noosphere having increased its dynamism, economic pressure on us to consume information, a lake of management of the information environment, and the lake of individual creativity.
Growing Economy This week I needed information about” who has the most growing economy in the world” Directly I went to library after I finished my class and looked for this information. I went to many web sites to find out who has the most growing economy in the world now. I went to economy watch web sites and got some information from there. I found that Qatar has the most and faster growing economy in the world now. This information was little bite surprising to me, I thought China it has the most growing economy due to its large population. It was really new and useful information for me.
Computer Science Before I took this class, I really did not know about Library on black board, so I went there to explore this page and what kind of service its offers to student. I find it really helpful to me to look up for information that I need in my major on a one web site and also offers links of other helpful web sites. This web site includes the most important sections that students need to get their resources. It is easy to anyone to use the web site and find the information that he needs. It organizes very well, but I think its needs to be more colorful. I think its needs a part to encourage student to major on Computer Science and what kind of opportunity this major will offer to them.
Google I think that Google makes information more available to us; you do not need to spend a lot of time and effort to get what you want. It is very easy; you just need to type a key word to have what you are looking for and more. Therefore, I do not see that Google makes us stupid, but it makes us more knowledge about other subjects especial Google leads to many sources in one time, so you will be able to know what others think about your subject. On other hand, Google is making us lazy. In the past, people went to library to read and research about the information and spend a lot of time to get information about one subject. Now, people prefer to go to Google than going to library to find the information that they need. They will find the information they need and more information about other subjects that give them an opportune to improve their knowledge and be aware of many subjects. However, Google is not making us stupid.
i agree with that we do not need to spend much time to get the information. also you said in the past people spend much time to get what they want but, i think if they spend time to look for it, it will be hard to forget the information they already know.
Information needed this week The information that I needed this week to know about was under what conditions the classes in Murray State would be canceled. The first recourse I looked at it was Murray State web site and also I researched for that in Google, I went to the web sites and checked for the reasons and circumstances that could cause to cancel classes. It was useful and helpful information, and I was really happy to know that bad weather could cause in canceling classes.
Overarching Questions in my Study I think the most important overarching question in my field of study is “are you good in math?” Computer Science is depended on math, so if you are good in math everything will go smooth with you, and you will not face a lot of problems in your study. The other question could be asked is what skills you have in computer. If you having good skills in computer will make your study easier than if you do not have that kind of skills. I think these two questions are the common overarching questions in my field of study.
Natural Language Interfaces to Databases If we want to talk about nature language interface to a database, we should first start with the definition of it. Nature language interface to a database is a system that allows the user to access information stored in a database by typing requests expressed in some natural language. Also, we know that nature language interface to a database is not such a new thing for, it has some history. It appeared in the late sixties and early seventies as Prototype Nlidbs. Since that day researchers have worked hard to improve it to be more helpful for people. Today we can see it as web sites that are easy to use and fast to find what you’re looking for and the best examples of web sites are Ask.com and Google. What makes Ask.com web site especial is that it answers your question directly and goes to your point without giving you a lot of options to look at it. Not like Ask.com, Google proves you with a lot of resources to find what you looking for.
Information needed this week This week I had to look up for jersey to Murray State University soccer team. My teammates and I discuses what we should wear and decided that everyone should go online and search for jersey. I thought that prices are the first thing I have to worry about it. I just type cheap soccer jersey on Google then Google leads me to eBay which has good jersey with reasonable price. It was really useful and helpful information, and I would use this web site (eBay) in future to get more items that I need because it has good items with reasonable prices.
The danger of drunk drivers is the information looked for this week. I search everywhere to find some helpful information and some facts. Drive while you are drunk will reduce your ability of controlling your car, and also will reduce the effectiveness of your seat belts and others car safety. Blood alcohol content (BAC) drivers are more likely in 385 times than zero (BAC) drivers to make accidents and for male drivers the risk is 707 times that of a sober driver. http://www2.potsdam.edu/hansondj/DrinkingAndDriving.html
I think that it’s difficult to compare between researching web sites especially when you comparing them to Google. What is special about Google is that Google has more sources more than any other web sites. If you compare Racer Trac and Academic Search Complete to Google you will find out that Google came up to you with too many sources than other web sites. Also, writing the word with correct spelling will help you to have more sources comparing that to a word with misspelling. Also, Google in my opinion has attractive home screen than others.
