Book Evaluation

The book I had to evaluate it was “The Twilight of American Culture” by Morris Berman. I’m going to evaluate the author of this article. According to the book, “Morris Berman is an innovative cultural historian and social critic. He has taught at a number of universities in Europe and North America, and has held visiting endowed chairs at Incarnate Word College (San Antonio), the University of New Mexico, and Weber State University”. However, “The Twilight of American Culture” book is discussing the decline in American life and seeing the future for American life and expressing his disappoint of that future. I cannot Think

What stated in the article happened to me exactly sometimes. I face this when I have a lot of homework to do during the week. So, I must agree with what this author mention because I make mistakes when my mind is busy and full of thoughts.  Also, I think that people sometimes try to move quickly and they end up mixing it up and confusion.
      With the generally accepted theory that we can do process only seven types of information at one time people try to deal with a lot of information. One example is cited reservations for airplane flight. There are too many companies and every one of them has various offers, discounts, and commitment. Trying to book that trip just overwhelm people make them choose the wrong option. And people keep trying to absorb information even if they cannot deal with it.

 Murray State provideds for its students a Worldcat  which is a database worksheet. Worldcat provides lists of all forms of media to the Internet at Murray State Library and libraries of other universities. I was able to find articles more useful by studies conducted by other universities, which was very difficult to find otherwise.
         I have searched for Computer Science article in worldcat only by using the Computer Science as keyword. Included the types of materials that have been indexed by worldcat; book, photos, audio, articles and more. Computer Science such a broad term I could come with huge number of results. These results are about everything do with Computer Science. Worldcat is helpful and wonderful because of the function controlled vocabulary, which was built in because it needs very little knowledge. Database also allows you to control what type of media that you want to see. There was also another post that worldcat was available that enables you to narrow your search.

Google Growth

Google will continue to grow at a rate that is now growing source of great concern to competing companies and investors. Investor hope that Google will keep the expansion and the acquisition of rival create huge profits. I think that the dot.com is still growing at a rapid rate, but I think it would be up to the selection of its relatively soon. When that happens, the strongest companies will swallow the smaller, resulting in an oligopoly. It will probably boil to Bing, Yahoo and Google. Google still has a head start on the publicity, and perhaps in the future will be that while some people think that this will be an issue, especially for fraudulent clicks. Since the groups believed that the rate of inflation for the fraudulent clicks and that they have programs to get around it. I think that Google is here to stay and continue to grow, and perhaps not with the same speed, but it remains to take the largest piece in the ads. Wikipedia

What was most suppressing me in this article and the most ironic is that Wikipedia was planned to be an online encyclopedia written by experts only. Also, the articles were planned to be peer reviewed and adjusted. However as we know anyone can change and edit a Wikipedia article and anyone can post on his article. Even though the reason for making Wikipedia what it looks now not as dependable or valuable since you would have to find and confirm the resources. The advantage the site being sit up this way is that it is not a traditional encyclopedia at Wikipedia there is everything that you can think of. Wikipedia hosts information in every filed that you would think about.

Subway Food

This week I needed information about Subway food is it really healthy so it could make me loss some weight. First resource I looked at was YouTube web site, I found the video above saying that Subway is ready to pay that lady a $ 1000 dollar each pound she is losing by eating Subway food.  I think that means Subway are sure of the quality they offer to their customers. Also, I went to Google search engine to find some information I found that some people share their own experience in Subway with others and most of their experience is interesting to read. Mostly their feedbacks were positive and encouraging other people to do so. What made these information worth to me is that they were experienced by others and gave a good results.

Copyright Questions

I think informational copyrights should be for 10 years as maximum because after 10 years the information will be old. Also, that could encourage people to raise their efforts to be more creative. I know that businesses live and profit because they improve and sell their information or software. It has to be protected or no businesses will no longer existing that make this type of product. Peer to peer networks seem to be overpowering and a waste of time trying to govern them and finally closed them. Peer to peer networks are cheap and can be moved quickly so I trust that they should be skipped while other issues are more important. The laws are confused to decide what would be the best, but a one year limit with penalty then after that keep everything the same. This is the best for businesses and users.

Copyright section in The Future of Ideas

I agree with the author of this article in some points and disagree with other points. I totally agree that people would not realize or analyze software. This greed can hurt the creativity of people. If people were allowed to be original the quality of the software and programs we use would increase. However, the one which leads and has control of the greed is Apple corp. Anyway, just as the article mentions, copyright protection is everywhere. I may use USB media player than using I pod. If copyright laws still the same I think creativity would be less than if copyright laws would be more flexible.

Future Students

I would recommend this class to anyone asks me about an enjoyable class; also, I would recommend this class for student who is looking to learn how to search about information fast and easy. I would tell them how I enjoyed this class and learned a lot. This class makes you more knowable about searching tools and how to use to get what you want in fast and easy way.   

Assigments

What I would change about blog assignment is the number of blogs; I would change them to two. One is going to be Information you need this week and the one we respond to articles. I think by reducing the blogs it will be easier to students to focus on these two instead of three. Also, I would add a book to this class which helps student to review the information they learn in class. The book should not be a heavy book it should have brief information about how to search about information.

Class

I really like many things in this class, but the one I liked more is the space and chairs of the class. It makes me more comfortable than small class room and small chairs. Also, I liked the way that instructor teaches the class; she makes the class more enjoyable and interesting. One thing I recommend to not change is the class time; I think Wednesday from 6-9 pm. is the best time for this class. One class in week makes the class more value.

Wikipedia

Wikipedia or free resource as it’s known for some people it’s one of the most famous web sites in the world. Wikipedia allows anyone to write articles there or edit articles; it is free to anyone to write about any subject there and also easy to anyone can access to the web to edit that article. However, Wikipedia used to be written only by experts and edit by peer reviewed. What especial about Wikipedia is that you can find any information you looking for there because it opens to public to write there without needs to prove that information is right or not. I’m sure that anyone could access to internet went to Wikipedia and looked for some information.  So, any information you need to find and know just go to Wikipedia and you will find it.  

Information Needed This Week

This week I needed some information about how media could affect in people views and believes. What was new experience to me this week that I had to make a survey to find out answers to my questions about media effectiveness in our lives? On my survey I targeted people in age of 21 and older because people in this age and older have enough knowledge in media. I did this survey in Waterfield Library and Murray Public Library. 75% of people believe what media says because they think media has no reason to lie on people. 25% of them see that media could make some lies to support their views of some causes like war in Iraq. 90% of people in this survey believe media could change their views and attitudes towards things. What I liked that most people have knowledge about media from different countries, and they were exciting to know the results of the survey.   Some of my questions came from this video 

Inside the Mind of Google

I think this video discovered and answered a lot of question I thought in about how Google works. This video had surprises to me especial that Google keeps your researches in database and could use it to reach you; exactly, the same what happened with the mother and her daughter in the example.  Not only this, but also video gives you a lot information about Google.  Also, how they started was really exciting from twenty members’ team to what they have today leads you to that nothing impossible in the world. All that was informative to me and nothing might cause me to change my Google habits. It may make me more careful when I search because I know that someone is watching me.         

This week I needed some information in how to write a business report. First resource I looked at was my “Google book” then I went to other web sites related to the subject.

“Business Communication” by Krizan, Patricia Merrier, and Joyce P. Logan, 

 I found it on Google books, it’s really worthy book, it has all what you need to write a value business report especially it was written by well-known names and experienced people in this filed. Information is stated directly and clearly so that help to better understanding, and give you detailed and reliable information at the same time.

They show how to write step by step with explanation each step carefully. Also, authors of this book provide you with good and bad example of writing business report which make it easier to understand. I really see this book worth and value because it has all what you need in this subject.

This week information

This week I needed information about relief your stress when you have presentation. I went back to my book in Public Speaking to learn how to claim when doing presentation. The book says that you have several ways to control your anxiety and tension. One way can be self-positive talk where you tell yourself that you will do well and you can make it. Another way controls your breathing by taking your time and knows that no need to hurry. Other one which I found it more useful is practicing a lot that gives you an experience of what you will do in a real presentation. You need to practice front of your friends, so they will give some feedback which will help you to know your strength and weakness. I really found this information helpful and I used them on my last presentation, and I noticed an improvement in my presentation. I became more self-confidence and more relaxing in my presentation. Controlled Vocabulary

I think that I should first start with definition of controlled vocabulary which is organized lists of words and phrases, or notation systems, that are used to initially tag content, and then to find it through navigation or search. Therefore, by controlled vocabulary we can organize and label our information. Controlled vocabulary could speed up our research and give us more results to use, so we don’t need to research again with different words.

If we think about the word “car” how we can research about it. Probably vehicle is the controlled vocabulary for car, or it could be motor. The related terms for car are trucks, or any automobiles including their technology (http://getwords.com/unit/100/ip:1). The broader terms are motorcar, automobile, and vehicle. Moreover, narrow terms might be sedan and coupe. The UF for car could be wheels and auto.

Talal

Talal, Alanazi, TA, Maradona, and Toti all of these refers to Alanazi Talal. As you notice there are many ways for everyone to be called by his friends, family, and co-workers. Some people don’t like to be called by their nicknames, but for me it’s okay. When I play soccer people start calling me Maradona which refers to the best soccer player through the history because I look like him, and I really love to be called Maradona only in field of soccer otherwise I like people to call me by my first name. If I were a famous I would prefer to be called Talal which is my first name because I would like people to know me as what I’m not as different guy even this difference is just my name. Also, I like my first name and I like it more when people pronounce my first name.          

I think the most important overarching question in my field of study is “are you good in math?” Computer Science is depended on math, so if you are good in math everything will go smooth with you, and you will not face a lot of problems in your study. The other question could be asked is what skills you have in computer. If you having good skills in computer will make your study easier than if you do not have that kind of skills. I think these two questions are the common overarching questions in my field of stud. In this video a definition of computer science and what it is about and the future of computer science major.   

The case against peer review

In this article the author talks about peer review and the important of it. I agree with the author when he says Peer review is the gold standard of modern science. I think peer review could help you to get the best results you looking for. It helps you to find out the right person for the job or study you would offer to him or to her. I experienced that here in Untied State when I had a peer review with my classmates. It really helpful in my option, it helps to gather your ideas with your classmate’s ideas and came up with a wonderful thought.  here is a link to an article I read about peer review.

How The Internet Gets Inside us

Imagine our lives without internet! Actually, internet now is a part of our lives; you cannot spend a day of your life without using internet. Our businesses, schools, hospitals, and other important facilities on our lives could not be used without internet.

 Even in our relationships internet plays a role, too many web sites were made to help you find your soul mate. Others were made to keep your friendship with your friends even if they are in different country or so far form you such as Facebook, and Twitter. I think that would be used as proving of people’s accepting internet on their lives. Internet now is considered as media and also as resource for old media and has effects as TV and newspaper have. Diet Soda

Yes I drink diet soda and regular soda everyday on my life even I heard that it could hurt your health. However, as too many other products that we use, eat, or drink it has advantages and disadvantages.  As advantage diet soda could help you to lower the risk of developing kidney stones http://www.topnews.in/drinking-diet-soda-may-lower-risk-developing-kidney-stones-2157418 .

As a disadvantage diet soda could cause a cancer as it says in the first article depending on an Italian study. Also, diet soda could make fat as you will see in the video below. For I would not change my habit of drinking soda either it is diet or regular because as I said before it could hurt you or help you, so it has kind of balance for me. As a result, I think both article are right. I think that there was a flaw in second article when the author shows that there is no risk of diet soda and trying to prove to us drinking diet soda is save and keep drinking soda. For me second article seems to be a commercial for diet soda not as prove of safety.  

   

Information Needed This Week

This week I had to look up for jersey to Murray State University soccer team. My teammates and I discuses what we should wear and decided that everyone should go online and search for jersey. 
I thought that prices are the first thing I have to worry about it. I just type cheap soccer jersey on Google then Google leads me to eBay ebay.com which has good jersey with reasonable price. It was really useful and helpful information, and I would use this web site (eBay) in future to get more items that I need because it has good items with reasonable prices.

Wal-Mart

Yesterday I went to Wal-Mart to see how it’s organized and structure. Once you enter Wal-Mart you will see candies and other items with big sale on them. Items at Wal-Mart are organized by categories, so you have a coffee section where you can find anything related to coffee as well as others categories. What are close to door are things easy to carry and have on them big sale. However, expensive and large size items are located in the back of store. The peanut butter is found in a better section as I think but I’m not sure. The peanut you can find on Legumes section. I really have not faced a problem like that I always find what I’m looking for in the section that seems to have it. 

Web is dead. Long live Internet

Before reading this article I was thinking that web and internet do the same job, but after reading this article I learned a new thing. This article shows us that now we use the internet more than we use the web which I believe it’s right. Everyone uses smartphones to access to the internet, so our used to the web becomes less and less. I’m really confused about this or you can say I believe in what is saying in the article in one side and I don’t believe the other side. What I believe in is that the internet is hugely uses by people and web begins using less, but that doesn’t mean the web is dead. The use of the web still good even it’s not as few years ago, but we still needs the web to do our business.  I think both of the web and the internet is needed in our lives, so we can’t say the web is dead and long live the internet.  Here is a video which I think could be a good source to provide with more information. Information Needed This Week

This week I needed some information about how to write a resume for my Business class and I needed to see some examples of good resume, so I went to some web sites and my book to learn how to write a good resume. After I checked my book (Communication of Business) for some good resume I went to online sources to get a better idea of a good resume. On www.myfuture.com web site I found what I'm looking for, it shows an example of a good resume step by step. It tells you the types of resume you can write then starts giving you others steps in details. It was really helpful and useful in the same time, and my professor was happy with my resume.
